I have to say that this guy has an encyclopedic knowledge of plants, particularly edible plants of Florida, and beyond that, Deane has fascinating stories about each plant. A great way to spend St Patrick’s day!
There were ten or twelve spoonbills down by the weir in Myakka River State Park, and this fella was really working on getting clean.
We went to Plant City for the annual Strawberry Festival, and more than the strawberries, the food booths caught my eye. They always do at these events — they are such pieces of art, and they represent the livelihoods of their inhabitants in many cases.

You don’t have to get too far off the path to see some pretty nice spots in Myakka. This was a new one for me, and I ended up bushwhacking to the road to avoid backtracking. And I ran into a gang of geocachers on the way.
